Never give your 100 ≠ Quiet Quitting

Never give your 100 ≠ Quiet Quitting

Many months ago, a concept on TikTok called "Quiet Quitting" became a trend, the video reached 3.9 million views and proposes to workers around the world to establish clear boundaries between work and life to reduce and manage stress without a proper resignation from the company payroll.

If we go to the origin of this concept, we will find it in China. It is said that this country prides itself on a strict work ethic and for this very reason the trend of "Quiet Quittin", which in China was known as "Lying flat" or "Tang ping", began in April 2021 when a publication about the concept went viral, where the author criticized the old mentality of work based living.

It's not to brag about, nor does it represent a career for me, but my sister told me "Never give your 100" around 2011.

My sister already knew the answer to all my problems.

The "Quiet Quitting" movement is harshly criticized in China, where it is argued that development, creating opportunities and enrichment should be priority to society.

And this all sounds well-intentioned on paper, but what happens when the other side of the coin isn't as bright as its counterpart? What happens when a gear in a machine is badly worn? What happens when you have more than 20 tabs open in Chrome?

It wears out, overheats, breaks down.

Another TikTok, that went viral in Australia, sparked the conversation on the subject, where testimonials such as:

“I went from putting 110 percent into everything I did to the absolute minimum necessary to stay happy and employed.”

Allison Peck, a professional trainer with over 400,000 followers on TikTok says:

"People are not going above and beyond, they are no longer trying their best for their employers or sacrificing their mental and physical health. They are doing what they are paid to do."

Never give your 100, propose that you do enough to not miss out on the worthwhile things in life. And optimization for someone like me, who has anxiety, is extremely important to be functional so as not to be setting limits or unattainable goals.

Lately, for me, it's about being realistic and doing what you can with what you have at your fingertips, because if we continue with this rhythm of life, that implies always being aware of everything and being part of everything, it will limit the "bandwidth" that can be applied to other parts of our lives.

Me, your friend, Mónica Aranda says that "Never give your 100" proposes to take control of your life and stop working around your job.

Allison Peck, comments on "Quiet Quitting"

"I wish it was called something else because you're not going to give up. You're looking out for yourself. You're floating or sailing. You're, like, sailing cautiously."

A Gallup report showed that 32% of employees in the United States are committed to work, a drop compared to 36% in 2020. Within the audience of this survey are people from generations X, Z, millennials and baby boomers.

A response to this situation and promoting stable work spaces that can be achieved with what I propose in my article "10 dimensions to navigate job burnout promoting a cultural transformation"

However, these phenomena that we are observing and experiencing are one of the many responses to the constant search for the need to take control of our time, value it and honor it because time is our currency and we better know where to save it and invest it.
